Tabletop
Analog Game Design

This book invites authors to share tips, tricks, ideas and insights into how to design tabletop games (e.g.; board, dice, card, roleplaying, collectible, miniature, war, pen and paper, hobby, etc.). There are a lot of books focused on the design of video games, and some include sections on the value of paper prototyping concepts and mechanics. There are also books that provide great overviews of tabletop games, but very few (if any) that focus on how to design tabletop games.

With that in mind, authors are encouraged to write about the inspiration and process of making analog games that have gameplay mechanics that are best experienced and played around a table with a group of friends. To help illustrate their points, authors can discuss games that they have designed themselves, or authors can analyze the mechanics of games that they’ve played and enjoyed.

The goal of this book is to help create a fun and informative book that provides variety of perspectives on how to design tabletop games. Tabletop games are designed with some of the most elegant gameplay mechanics found, and as such they merit the time and consideration. By inviting authors to discuss how tabletop games are designed, we hope to clearly show and share how these great games are made.
