Week 14: Softs Feedback & Final Features
Last week was softs and we had players playtesting our experience. We were able to identify various places where people had trouble with the experience. This week’s goal is to fix those problems.
Some Last Minute Fixes
Shorter Tutorial
We got a common feedback before feedback that the tutorial is a wee bit long and that it felt Ako was hammering in the instructions making it clear but not fun. So, we decided to eliminate the explanation of set rules with the chart. This chart would later be handled during the mini-game session.
We also eliminated the use of Set Instruction cards. So, the player now chooses any 3 cards from the deck to be the instruction card. This proved to be a better flow for the experience by eliminating drawing and moving of extra instruction cards.
Our most common observation was that people initially made mistakes in the mini-game but also learned from their mistakes. However, this made the tutorial part much smaller and more interesting much earlier.
Let’s Give a Hi-Five
While we made hand interactions to play with Ako, people often didn’t know they could do this. We decided to make Ako give a Hi-Five to the player when they find a set. Now, even when the players didn’t know they could touch and interact with Ako, they were delighted when they found out they could give a High-Five!

Next Steps
We made a list of things to address first. Considering we are two weeks away from finals, we started prioritizing the list of things that would mean the most to our experience.
- Make Ako be able to answer specific questions during the experience: After going through our playtest videos, we narrowed down a list of questions that most people asked. Answering these questions within the game would help the players understand and play better.
- Players often didn’t notice the hints Ako was giving : We had to make sure they are able to ask for hints when they want to. So, we decided to let people know that they could ask for hint whenever they want. We will be working on this soon.
