Blog – Week 3

This week, FeelsBot spent much of our time prototyping, iterating and further brainstorming our “Paranormal Detective” concept, which we are now referring to as our “Spirit World” concept. Through creating numerous script drafts, narrative design documents and concept art, our team workshopped what our experience should consist of.

The “Spirit World” story revolves around a father and a daughter, Candace and Edward Cartwright, who have had a troubled relationship throughout their lives. Edward, an inventor, innovator and philanthropist, becomes obsessed with his work and worldwide vision at the expense of his daughter. After Edward’s death, the player is placed in his office, with one message on the machine from a lamenting Candace who expresses how she wishes she could have just said goodbye. The experience would consist of the player discovering the events that caused the rift in their relationship, with the ultimate goal to give Candace and Edward an opportunity at reconciliation through Edward’s greatest invention, the spirit machine.

Our current idea calls for a mechanic based on listening to the “ghosts” of objects; picking them up and listening to the stories they have to tell about the main characters. We hope to prototype this mechanic and find the fun with the Oculus Touch controllers once we get access to them.

Our branding has also gone through many iterations, with Wendy ultimately creating something we feel greatly encapsulates the FeelsBot team. She were able to create final iterations for our logo, half sheet and poster!

Next week, we will further flesh out our concepts, getting into the much finer details of the story beats and discerning how we can best blend emotion with mechanics!
