Newsletter #7 – Production phase began

This week team Kotodama Fruit Juice has officially started the production phase. Team focused on the deliverable for upcoming halves and finalized the design for the prototype that we are going to demonstrate during the presentation.

It was decided that the prototype will include our main character on the stage delivering a monologue, which will vary depending on character’s emotional status (or as we call it on our developer’s slang “Llama Drama”). Llama Drama will be affected (at halves’ version) by the amount of heckling you make as a player, who is watching the process in the audience.

We have built the scene in Unity with some assets for stand-up environment, and next week we will be expecting some animations for the main character, since rigging of the model is finished now.

Also, we have finished our experiments with text to speech synthesizer which we will use for the demo and looking forward to play with the actual script (part of it that we are going to have for halves), that we will have by the middle of next week.

Playtest

Besides all that, the team has done 2 playtests: one with the bad jokes material read to people in order to see their reaction and another one with a professional improv actor Woody Drennan! This gave us a much better vision of which interactions we might use in future and what to expect from the audience. Also this will help a lot during the animation process.

Next week we will finish the demo and will be preparing for the presentation. Wish us luck at halves!
