About the Project

The S.T.E.P team is working in collaboration with the Heinz school's Program of Research and Outreach on Gender Equity Society (P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S.) to create an online Flash based game.

The goal of this game is to teach negotiation skills to girls aged 7 to 12 years old and will be used in PROGRESS's "Win-Win" Girl Scout badge program. Through the use of training modules and role-play negotiation games, players will learn a wide range of soft skills that help them become more effective negotiators.

In addition, we will be gauging the effectiveness of the game with a ending survey that tests the player's comprehension of events in the story. We particularly focus on the relationship the player developes with the computer characters and will survey the player to see if they understood each charactere's underlying motivations. Our game focuses on three main ideas:

  1. Turning negotiations into a collaborative problem solving exercise

  2. Realizing your best alternatives

  3. Recognizing opportunities for negotiation
