Hello Everyone! It is once again time for a weekly update. This is our seventh week of work on the project. I plan to write a few more posts this coming week when I get some time between classes and project work concerning how we pick books (finding the movement and that special life that was discussed in the week 6 post), I also plan on writing more about working with the X1 platform and what gets us the most excited about it. I’ll also be adding some detailed posts with pictures next week. My classes keep me very busy, but next week I get a small breather to study for midterms.
If you remember last week’s post, we spent the weekend creating a prototype out of Guji-Guji. We finished it, mostly by Monday and were pleased to show it to our instructors and client. They seemed to like it enough. We were given a deadline of getting the build to the client by Wednesday so it could be shown around the office. With this goal we formed a long list of things to fix and add so we could put our best foot forward at the client’s office with the build. That ate most of the early part of the week.
However, we had some work happening in the background that we will be implementing in our next prototype. A beautiful new UI design has been created for our story selection page. Work is getting done on the intro to the app. A magical framework for interfacing the tablet with the TV easier was created by two of the programmers, and we now have the word the narrator says grow and draw attention to itself as the narrator says it. I’m told this is quite tedious to implement, but it looks really nice. On the design side we have changed the design of our character’s character, we are still working on fleshing it out. Maybe I’ll post a backstory here in the future. We have broken the experience down to its main moments and identified what the guest should know at that moment, what they need to know, and how we can teach them what they don’t know. Which, I am pleased to say, has helped us design our tutorial which we have been struggling with quite a bit. Now we just need to test it. And last but not least we have identified another way to bring pages to life. This will be tested with another prototype which we have just started work on.
That’s it for project updates, but I would like to announce my intentions of creating a design section of this site where most of those extra posts I discussed earlier will be located. Look forward to that. Also pictures coming soon.
