Pre-Production Plans
Objectives:
"Facilitate storytelling by providing a
known back story and familiar characters"
|"Experiment with the usefulness of a demo
world "
" Concentrate on creating a story and then
providing all necessary animations and objects
to tell this story "
" Highly develop the characters within
the context of the story
Concept: Our tool kit will be based on
two fairytales that can be assumed familiar
by most children, the three pigs and little
red riding hood. The unifying character between
the two stories is the wolf. We have chosen
to supply the necessary characters and props
for both of these stories to allow the option
to create either story as it is known, or to
create a new mixed up version of the stories.
We are proposing that by using a solid story
with a beginning, climax, and ending, we can
encourage the kids to create more elaborate
narratives. We will use the two storylines as
the basis for all of our models and functions,
thereby providing a tighter toolkit. There will
also be a demo world that is included in the
kit. This demo will serve as an example of the
stories that can be told, and will show case
most animations and camera movements. The largest
area of concern to us was creating a story,
and creating something that will be interesting
to the kids. For this reason, we have carefully
developed each character to give it a distinct
attitude and some modern characteristics. We
also chose to include the two stories to allow
the kids to create some kind of mixed up story
if they choose (think "Into the Woods"). We
feel that by providing all necessary functions
to tell the basic story, they can easily branch
off into more creative ideas. The most important
aspect of the functions is that they will all
center around the story, which implies that
they will involve each other and their environment.
Camera Movement: This kit will also provide
camera movement methods that have the option
to save current camera positions and return
to them. Each of these camera positions will
be provided using dummy objects built into the
object hierarchies, thus enabling us to do this
through the Alice Gallery. These features will
be demonstrated in the example world and hopefully,
experimented with.
Characters:
Little "hick" Piggy - This pig lives in the
straw hut. He wears overalls and a straw hat,
and is very simple. He is the youngest of the
three piggy brothers and is not too bright.
He is very friendly and considerate though.
Little Piggy is friends with Little Red Riding
hood. They like to play games, but she usually
takes charge. He likes to emulate his brothers,
but usually ends up failing. He also likes to
try and build things out of straw. He figured
that if he could make a straw hat he could also
make a straw house. Little Piggy is easily confused,
bashful at times, and easily frightened. His
favorite thing to do is to lie down and stare
at the clouds.
Macho "Lumber Jack" Piggy - This pig lives in
a wooden house. He is the middle of the three
brothers, and he too is not very bright. He
likes to show off his large muscles that he
has from cutting wood. He is a real tough guy
and loves to provoke other pigs. Macho piggy
always thinks he is the best, but often times
fails next to his oldest brother. He sometimes
feels inadequate, but makes up for it by cutting
even more wood to get even stronger. He has
a bad temper, and is not very thoughtful. His
favorite thing to do is to try and build things
out of wood. He is better at cutting then building,
though, so many of his creative attempts end
up failing.
Brainy "Harvard" Piggy - This pig lives in a
beautiful brick house. He is taller then his
brothers and thin. He always holds himself properly
and wears preppy clothes. He is the oldest of
the brothers and by far the smartest. He does
not spend much time out doors because he is
constantly reading and studying. However, he
made an exception when he built his home because
he felt the need to show his brothers how to
properly build your own house. He is very proud
of his own achievements, and will gladly brag
about his IQ. He does not understand how his
brothers can be so dumb. His favorite way to
spend his time is to sit in his study and read.
The Big Bad Wolf - This wolf is a real bad guy
by nature. He has always been a bully at heart
and always will be. He is generally angry at
the world, and wants everyone around him to
suffer. He doesn't out right attack, however,
he prefers to carefully think of ways to really
make someone scared. He is conniving and tricky,
but always has a malicious intent. At times
he really enjoys cross dressing. Especially
when this aids him in scaring someone. He especially
likes to frighten and pick on little pigs and
little girls. His favorite thing to do is to
think up a new way to be malicious.
Little Red Riding Hood - She is a little girl
who is seemingly cute and sweet on the surface,
but has an underlying wild side. She gladly
takes the role of the feminine hero, and at
times settles for the little brat. She has matrix
like ninja moves that are capable of warding
off an attack from large animals. She also loves
to play games with her friend little pig. She
often visits her grandma, and is thoughtful
enough to bring along homemade sweets. Although
she is calm on the surface, she is not a little
girl you want to mess with.
Other Models Include: Environmental Sphere (Forest
Scenery) Sphere with only a few objects. The
flat terrain should eliminate sinking problems
Three houses - straw hut, pathetic twig house,
brick house Basket All three houses will have
an open door method while the straw hut and
twig house will have a blow over method Hood
