Week 2 (Sept.5 ~ Sept.12): Brainstorming

In this week, every member of the team did a presentation of what they come out with brainstorming, and certainly we already started to have an idea what we’re going to make.

The first one is close to the traditional sense of AR: put a layer of effect on top of real world captured by the camera. Say we can use the sky as our screen, putting some fancy visual effects, or advertisements:

The audience can interact with the object, and possibly get some rewards out of that.

The second idea we have is related to collective activities during the game–Mexican Wave is a good example of that. We think it is possible to make the mobile device part of the cheering, maybe taking a selfe during the cheering will give a surprise to the audience.

Also we thought of audience interaction with the player: during the game, when some event happens, say a player get some scores, the audience can shake their phone and get some rewards. Audience can also “like” their favorite stars, like what we have in social media.

For a gaming option, we designed a trading card game, and of course players become trading cards. The audience can collect those cards by going to a game, form their best team and compete against each other:

This comes from our observation of Pokemon Go, the collecting part is exciting, however there are not much we can do with the Pokemon we collected. There is fighting for gym, but that’ not very often. Having something to collect must be combined with some games around that.

The last one is a info app, which tells the audience which bathroom has the shortest line, or which hot dog cart is currently available. It sounds simple but we found this very useful and somehow funny.

We talked to our client about our brainstorming result, he found them interesting, but a little concerned about interacting with sports stars, because there are already enough problems of people interacting with celebrity. For the information app idea, he like it but saying, “we come to ETC because we want something fun. We can make some information apps on our own.”

It is always good to listen to feedback, and this time we have a clearer idea of what the client really wants. Also we spent some time doing the branding as well as poster and team photos, which added a lot of fun to the project.
