The theory is very applicable to museum spaces as a whole and is something that anyone designing for this industry needs to know.
“This can help to enhance the design of museum spaces.”

Brad Baer Director of Strategy for Bluecadet May 3, 2016

While the studio in the Andy Warhol Museum isn’t exactly a makerspace, they are experiencing the same difficulties the MAKESHOP has when appealing to certain guests.

“These could help in the studio. I want them.”

Desi Gonzalez Manager of Digital Engagement for The Andy Warhol Museum May 3, 2016

Though the Contemporary Craft Studio guests are less inclined to shy away from learning, they still model the behaviors shown in the model and archetypes. “It brings to light that we should start thinking in this way. It’s totally intuitive that we should use these for professional development.”

Rachel Saul Assistant Director – Education for the Society for Contemporary Craft May 6, 2016

Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh

This can help with getting everyone using the same language.

Jane Werner Executive Director of the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh May 6, 2016

We should go on the road with this for conferences.

Jane Werner Executive Director of the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh May 6, 2016

I think the model offers a really smart and simple anilitical tool for our teaching artists. I love that it’s simple, and in its simplicity it reveals the variation of the kind of parents and the kind of visitors we experience. I think something really nice about a simple tool like that is it forces us to surface our assumptions about learning, what productive learning looks like in the MAKESHOP. I think that the array of tools you guys (Aristeia) have provided serve as a fantastic cornerstone of professional learning experiences for teaching artists, educators, and facilitators within makerspaces.

Peter Wardrip Learning Scientist at the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh May 6, 2016

So what I value about these is that there is no right way because when we talk about ‘making’, its really about personal choices and expression and exploration. So I think that having these recommendations about ‘How can you get to different goals depending on what your hope is for them?’ I think that’s an exciting attribute of them.

Rebecca Grabman Makeshop Manager at the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh May 6, 2016

We always get visitors from other spaces who are really just interested in the why behind what we do and the how and I think that given a busy day where we don’t have a ton of time to really go as in depth in those conversations as we’d like to, being able to pull out a deck of cards and say ‘Check these out! Let me know if you have any questions’, I think that would immediately get people thinking about using our research in their own spaces

I think these would be really great for professional development with the Allegheny County Library Association. A lot of them are very interested in starting their own makerspaces. This is such a presentable model that I think this would be a really good way to teach them how to facilitate.

For people who aren’t as familiar with all these things, it could be helpful to at least clarify that there are certain personality types that just might not go with certain Principles of Practice as well, and that’s ok.

Teaching Artist MAKESHOP Facilitator May 6, 2016

I just think that these (Inspiration Cards) as a separate deck would be really good to have for new people starting here just who aren’t exactly sure how to facilitate within the space or people who are starting new maker spaces.

We started to use that language like ‘along that blue axis’ or ‘this is kind of like a yellow thing to do’. I think that this has helped.
