Iterate and build up! This week, we finally completed our AR scenes and transition effects and successfully integrated them into the application. We added fog and color shaders for the 1911 AR scene to maximize the vintage effect. In addition, we improved our AR UI by adding big icons to show the progress of the journey and changed the texture using old paper texture to have more consistency with the photo album.
Our team has been trying to solve the accessibility issue regarding the printed map. In the remote situation, students who do not have a printer might have a problem initiating the AR scene. To solve this issue, we also created a new mode which does not need to use the printed map and AR. We transported the same 3D environment in VR so that users can play the whole application without the map.
Our designers created additional art assets including final UI and character animations by Wednesday so that our programmer was able to start developing 2D scenes from Thursday. While our programmer integrating all pieces into the application, designers planned further iterations and started creating 1911 art assets. By this week, we already have all the interactive items, and Em is working on the 2D background and character art by next week.
What we need to polish from past weeks is the dialogue for the characters and grandmother’s letter as part of the onboarding storyline. We are planning to discuss this with our clients before the Thanksgiving holiday.
To sum up, we have made great efforts to build up all pieces we have right now and prepare to finalize our product before softs.
