Week 6

We are now in our development phase. This week, we have made progress in prototype, art, and design. For programming, we successfully implemented the scene 1 camera control in Unreal. For art, we made patient room and overall layout. For design, we detailed out the choice making mechanics and two mini games design.

We have 6 nurses in our game. We plan to have 4 female nurses and 2 male nurses, and we also want to add diversity in skin colors and ages.

Design

The design problem that we want to tackle down this week:

Our design team focused on how to make the experience more interactive and how to make the players engaging. We want to keep the players engaged rather than watching an interactive movie.

• Branch Narratives

We detailed out our choice making mechanics. The player will have 2 times of choices making in our game which will leads to different mini games and different story ending.

Entering the elevator, the player will make the first choice on passing the virus to one the two nurses. Passing to nurse C will lead to a hand washing mini game, passing to nurse D will lead to candy bowl mini game.

In the break room, the player will make the second choice on passing the virus to one of the two nurses, where the player will have different ending: either virus killed by sanitizer, or following the nurse to go home.

• Mini Games

We have 2 mini games in our experience.

The first one is hand washing mini game. In this one, the player as the virus is directing all the virus on the nurse’s hand to survive the hand washing process. The virus will select which place to hide, including palm, back, between finger, wrist, and nails. And each places have different survive rate.

Our education purpose for this game is to telling the player that the between finger, wrist, and nails are the places that are easily to forgot in hand hygiene.

The candy bowl interaction is that the player will have QTE to move from candy to the nurse’s hand. The sharing food bowl is the high traffic surface that have lots of different virus. If you do not wash hands before eating, it is likely that you will got virus into your mouth.
