The Work This Week

Quarters

We had Quarters this week, which in a remote environment meant we were holding our Zoom meeting room for two hours with faculty members ducking in and out to see what we’ve built, provide feedback, and answer any sort of questions we might have. Check out the slides below, which details what we covered in a roughly 5-minute presentation where everyone on the team had a chance to speak.

Logistics

Team HyperPickle had a very special experience on Monday – team dinner in a remote manner where we ate and enjoyed the film Inception by Christopher Nolan together! People stayed at a really high vibe as chitchat continued.

Different meals ordered, same happiness shared (with cat?)

We also had a chance to share our design with Ricardo on Friday, who gave some really nice insights, especially on the poster, as we will be locking down on the final version in week 5.

Client Meeting

The client meeting this week was a really informative one. On the production side, not only did we confirmed the competition would launch March 16, 2021, but we also managed to know what our client offer and expect the promotion materials. The picoCTF twitter could promote our game as we have a content release schedule, for which (and also for printing on t-shirts) some artwork from our end was expected.

One thing we confirmed with our client is the built-in timer, which was a high priority as our idle game really runs on that system. We were able to inquire more information through the next week, for which hopefully the function could be implemented into the picoCTF API.

The Plan for Next Week

Next week, after we digest all the feedback from faculty members, we are going to work on the first game prototype that showcases most of the core mechanics. Also as a team, we will discuss the details of the story, theming of picoCTF questions, trade system, world building, etc.  So much to be excited about!
