OVERVIEW
This week turned out to be an interesting one. Our approach to prototype various technologies helped us pick one which received lots of positive feedback from the faculty and the client. This eventually was followed by a new interaction design specifically for the tablet Oculus prototype.
PROGRESS
The team presented the game design to advisors and some faculty members in the ETC and learned that it was necessary to make an experience which was very simple, but with rich environment. Also the tablet Oculus prototype was well received as a novel idea. Thus, we decided that we should design a simple experience which is suitable for this technology. The designers spent some time researching various species of fishes and related information about their habitat and unique characteristics. This research was meant to serve the short term goal of designing a simple experience for the android tablet prototype. “Simple” was our keyword. Inspired from the Pokemon snap game, the designers produced a new interaction design which is our short term development goal before quarters. The goal of the experience is to explore the beautiful underwater world and click snapshots. Knowing that the target audience is the elementary school kids, we made sure we had familiar fishes like Clownfish (Nemo), Blue Tang (Dory), etc. in our design.
In parallel, our programmers completed prototyping the remaining technology. The artists also completed the project branding materials. Last week a survey was sent out to teachers of Mountainview Elementary School. We received some responses and they were really helpful in shaping our new design. The client is also positive about our approach of developing on tablets.
PROSPECT
Next week will be spent in developing the new design prototype. The artists will produce concept references for the environment. The team will also continue researching deeper into this aquatic biome subject. A trip to the local aquarium and meeting with marine biologist is also lined up. Friday is the quarters and we hope to present a playable version of our new design.
