WEEK4 – PROTOTYPING :))

After getting a lot of useful feedback last week, this week we focused on drilling down the details of our story, character and environment design and started to working on prototyping one of our story scene.

Story

In order to prepare for quarter’s next week, we are working to reduce the grid of the story, which is better for long time presentation, but not suitable for a one minute pitch when there is a lot of people. We integrated the stories into more clear pieces and rehearsed the presentation with more concise words.

Art

We are modeling our environment assets and human characters for our prototype. Currently, we have finished the flower model and the tree model. The flower model is rigged, animated and imported to our engine project. We are using Mixamo for our human character, which is an auto rigging tool provided by Adobe, it has a great animation library, which can save us a lot on animating our human characters. Our creature character is still in the modeling process, but it will be finished very soon.

Programming

This week we setup the environment and stated to create the transformation moment. We experiment with different camera specs and created an animation demo for the feeling of this transformation.

Here is the video demo of this https://youtu.be/2y-8Mljtuww

For reflection effect, we finished the implementation. Now we can have a nice reflection of the whole environment in the designated area and ready to be integrated into the our project.

Branding

We have finished polishing all our branding materials this week, and changed the half-sheet, poster to the size. All the materials are all finalized and ready to be printed.

For next week, we plan to get feedbacks on whether people understands our story or not, the transformation process and art style setting by showing our storyboard and prototype. There is still some work to do, but we feel prepared for quarters. There are a few more long-term scheduling things we should lay out, such as planning for the future playtests since they are essential to our project, but we are feeling confident about the work we have done so far and where we’re headed.
