Iteration & Testing

This week our efforts were concentrated on refining our ideas and narrowing down on ideas we want to pursue further. We have come up with a mind map encompassing all our ideas and challenges.

Outreach

On Friday, the Kenner room was being used as a hangout space for the game jam, we put up a few questions for the visitors up on the glass wall. We also conducted a fun playtesting session in our room to capture interactivity and using native languages.

Work Done this Week

This week we were getting ready for the quarter walkthroughs, we came up with our metrics and composition box for our project.

Through meetings, we decided that the most important metrics for this project were interactivity, client requirements and prototyping.

Play-Testing

We’re having the quarters coming up next week, and we’ve had a lot of research and come up with so many ideas to go with what we learned form the research. We began to put up some quick play-testing to test some of the ideas, hoping to find some insight from the testing. We’re keeping in mind that we’re creating this installation for the CMU residents, not just for ourselves. It is important to learn about what they want and like.

We invited some peers to our project room to play with the interactive board. It was a simple You Draw, I Guess game. What we learned from watching them play were 1) hints or basic instruction makes the experience more enjoyable, 2) People tend to resort to talking rather than drawing more clues to help the guessers guess the answer. We let them follow how they felt was fun, not following the rules. They had fun talking to each other through the guessing, it was easy and natural.

On the other hand, we created three posters to test people’s reaction to drawing freely of your personal preference on the same topic, their attitudes toward sharing personal experience, and what they would associate the concept of a home with.

Art: Logo

Logo (By Lu)

We have come up with our project logo. We hope the logo reflects the location-based characteristics of our project. Moreover, the incomplete cube creates room for imagination for different perspectives. The viewers can see the dimension either standing outward or folding inward.

Challenges

We enumerated our challenges as follows:

  1. Content should be inclusive of all cultures.
  2. Time limitations, state of our deliverables during lectures, conferences.
  3. Technology Limitations, the feasibility of projection mapping in a well-lit room.

Changes Made

Keeping the mind the above challenges, we have decided on the following changes:

  1. Having a neutral character/environment in our installation who does not belong to one culture.
  2. Looking towards adaptable deliverables that can be switched on and off.
  3. Turning attention towards the touch screen and interactive board inside the room.

Plan for Next Week : (Analyse Feedback & Start Prototyping)

Next week we plan to collect feedback on our approach from faculty members during walkthroughs and also collect data from our outreach efforts. After that, we want to start prototyping with available resources.
