Week 1 Newsletter — Spring 2014
On Tuesday, all the teams got together for orientation and heard all there was to hear about the Silicon Valley campus! There was certainly a buildup of excitement throughout the orientation and then the tour. Not to mention the phenomenal weather we were experiencing in California.
We followed up the orientation by meeting together in our office space where three of the teams would be located. We came together and decided who would receive the unfortunate smaller office space. We decided the best method for deciding would be to pick Legos from a hand! Alas, our project team got the smaller space…Although we’ve managed to fit our seven in here quite effectively, not to mention it’s quite cozy and we seem to be fitting in well together.
We had our first advisor meeting, to discuss what was expected over the semester and what in fact the project actually entailed. It was great to hear from the source of the idea. After this we carried on putting all our gear together. During the rest of the week we sat and brainstormed a lot of ideas and concepts for game type. What followed also was a large brainstorm session of game mechanics that we could use in any type of game. We also made quite a large effort in getting out and playing some physical games together as well as with the rest of our ETCers that are also here in Silicon Valley. This sparked something as the following day we had an impromptu brainstorming session which really produced.
We had an advisor meeting that Friday where we shared of our ideas and we spoke of where to head out from there. We are going to pitch three ideas to the advisors on the Wednesday coming after refining our ideas and picking the ones we really are excited for!
Among that we will start setting up tech to start testing some of the game mechanics we’d like to get moving with.
Enjoy the weekend!
