Week 4 Newsletter — Spring 2014
Carrying on the back of previous week, a lot of infrastructure and UI research happened over the last five days. Our programmers are currently separated into two teams, two looking at setting up the server for networking between phones. The other two taking the challenge on for developing the Real Time Strategy game and Treasure Hunt game between the two of them.
We received MapNav this week, much to our team’s relief. We started working with it directly; putting aside current tasks to be sure we could apply new work without delay. Our research in networking our game is still going on, we have found ways to do it, though there are obviously always niggles that need to be sorted out.
Our poster, half sheet and logo have been completed. Through the week the team has been giving our some feedback to the designer and they look great. We managed to do a rough paper playtest to try out our Treasure Hunt game, which was successful in some way and not in others. What we can say is it was a lot of fun, not to mention very tiring.
Our team had a very interesting conversation with Adam Nelson too, who is the Director at City of Play. We spoke to him about our ideas to see if he had any feedback. He seemed very positive about what we are trying to do. We accepted (very gratefully) a lot of his feedback, being glad we spoke to him this early on.
Saturday our team will be visiting San Francisco to take part in a Big Game called Logan’s run. We are excited to see what we can deduce from an actual game being played and organized by a team outside of ETC. More on all our observations next week!
