Newsletter – Week 6 – Content Development

Content Development

This week, our focus was on touring through the museums with curators and working to uncover connections throughout. We had two meetings this week, lasting about an hour and a half each time, during which we traveled through many of the spaces in the museum. Monday’s visit was primarily focused on the physical items in the museum. We discussed many interesting facts and some of the common themes in the art portion of the museum. We then moved over to Natural History, travelling through the Hall of Birds and then heading into the mammal area. Wednesday, we took a different approach, spending more time discussing some broader concepts within the museum and the museum’s goals. We left these discussions even more determined to express the knowledge that exists within the buildings through our product.

Museum Tours

Both sets of tours started with a brief presentation of the paper prototype we presented at Quarters. As many of the people joining our tour were not particularly familiar with our project this proved very useful and served to update our client representatives as well. In going through the museums, we realized that there is a tremendous amount of knowledge and insight held by the staff. While not particularly surprising, they were very willing to discuss their views of the museum, what its goals are, and what makes their work important and interesting. They were also very willing to answer our questions and take an interest in what we were intrigued by or found to be worthwhile. We look forward to continuing these tours next week as well as to possibly expand them to include some of the museum’s docents.

Moving Forward

Next week, we will once again be touring the museums, but this time we will have some more specific goals in mind. We will have met as a team to discuss the themes we find most interesting and promising and will seek to create paths for our visitors to follow. Overall, we remain highly enthusiastic about the project and look forward to bringing a new level of accessibility to the museums.
