This week we’ve made progress on several fronts towards the finished product:
Design: New design docs for all the objects! After finalizing the list of objects and before writing the relevant code for them, new design docs were added for each one of the objects detailing the flow of interactions.
Art: New living room! Out with the old and in with the new. So far the rooms have been placeholders and now we finally have our customized living room. Next on the agenda are the objects and after that the rest of the rooms. By working on the objects first, the designer and programmer can move to focus on integrating them into the experience.
Playtest: More story playtest! With the help of other ETC students, we playtested each of the story segments asking for feedback on each one. So far we’ve only asked for feedback on the story as a whole. It was interesting to see what type of information we intended the players to get and what they actually noticed. For example, for the record player, the story was meant to be around the main character not dating during high-school. However, playtesters focused more on the fact that her parents had a record player and what is their age exactly. Based on that, changes were made to not include too much information per object.
Next week we prepare for playtest day and a visit from UPMC.
