For this week, we focused on having a full structure to test in our VR experience. Until now, we tested mainly the 1st phase of our experience, which is the phase where users pick up objects that reveal parts of the women’s past. We had one scene for the 2nd phase, the memory related to the abortion, but it was mainly to test the transition and the flow of the experience In this week’s prototype, we wanted to implement the entry part of the experience.
So for the entry phase, we put three cellphones in a void space. They have different names on them and when the user chooses one, the character’s name becomes the one that they chose. We wanted to test if personalizing the experiences helps with getting users immersed more easily. Another thing we changed this week was changing all the silhouettes into 3d models. In the previous prototype, the memory scenes are all represented as 2d black silhouettes, except for the doctor scenes. However, after several playtests, we realized that this change in style throws off the users. So we maintained the black silhouette style but created with 3d models. This allowed us to have more natural animations and consistency in style.
During playtest on Friday, we found out that having three phones ringing at once overwhelmed the users. So we concluded on adding more context to it for future iterations.
Next week is spring break and after that is GDC. So for two weeks, we are not doing any playtests but focusing on converging everything we have for halves.
