As the semester finally draws to a close, our team was left with only a few – but major – tasks to deal with. The ETC Open House was this week, and our Final Presentation to the ETC students and faculty the next.
The ETC Open House was an event during which guests could come to any of the project rooms and try out our experiences. We had a host of different guests, each with varying degrees of game experience and knowledge. It was exciting to see a diverse range of people playing our game demo, our room would get quite loud due to the audience participation element! We were able to use this time to observe any small bugs or fixes that we would need to implement later on.
We spent majority of this week working on final fixes and iteration on our game demo and documentation. We began fixing the last of the major bugs in our game demo, and were also finally able to make a build in Lumberyard. This had been an issue throughout the semester, so it was imperative we solved it before the semester drew to a close. Additionally, we also spent a lot of time polishing our documentation – fixing images, grammar, sentences, and overall ensuring consistency.
We also spent some time getting ready for our Final Presentation next week. We all are looking forward to the end of the semester, but at the same time, have a lot of small tasks and work to take care of as we wrap up the final pieces of Workbench.
This week on the art side is mostly about cleaning assets, deleting unwanted fbx files, and making sure that everything looks the same between the engine and the final build. We are also recording and taking screenshots of our game, for both documentation and presentation purposes. This actually helped us in rethinking the placement of certain assets, which then lead to us minor adjustments. For example, moving the container a little, add some smoke effects on broken cars, and deleting a few trees for a better view of the player.
Following LumberJam last week and during preparation for ETC Open House this week, our team narrowed down and listed out the final bug fixes and documentation changes that we were going to make. Next week is our final presentations and playthroughs so this is really it. It has been an incredible journey mastering this game engine and developing a game. This week and early next week we will be wrapping up our project. We were also able to finally create a build of our game which was very satisfying. This had been a pain point throughout the semester, but since Lumberyard updated their docs on how to create builds, we were finally able to get through all the steps successfully. Now we have a build and we have locked our game. The following week will just be doing some clean up tasks and archiving our whole game, process, and documentation.
