Week8 development log

For this week, we did our 1/2 presentation and recapped the feedback.

  1. We did our 1/2 presentation this Monday. The major feedback we had for 1/2 was how to show off the Edge Computing tech and the playtest plan based on the COVID situation.
  2. Our client from InterDigital came up with an idea of immersive gameplay design with Google Cardboard after watching our 1/2 presentation and we had a design meeting with our client to talk about their design idea and our concern.
  3. We had an in-team tech design meeting to talk about the concerns and system design challenges for switching to Google Cardboard and had another round of communication. After knowing those concerns, our client approved our idea to not test with Google Cardboard for now.

Our concerns

  • The resolution isn’t great. (Physical Pixels on the Screen, not the graphical resolution)

  • There are concerns with sanitation. (Especially since cardboard can’t easily be wiped down easily)

  • Motion sickness is still a question.

  • Differentiation of a Goal and Reflector would be hard to communicate visually in a small space.

  • Future expansion: Certain features may be more difficult to integrate under a face-only control scheme.

  • Using hands to hold the cardboard to your face restricts your hands from moving around the playfield.

  • Intuitive Interactions with games requires players to tap on the phone screen in a precise manner.

  • Have to cut the cardboard to ensure camera sight is clear and hard to make it stable after doing some cut operation

  • The camera is not stereoscopic and not centered.
