Week 1 Newsletter

Week 1 (1/13 – 1/17)

Kick off!!
We have successfully completed our first week jumping into our project. During this week we were able to establish a lot of things, and also met with our advisor and our client.
Our team talked and discussed, and finally came down to a satisfying team name of “Fenix”. Because our given project name was “EA – Reboot old games”, phoenix the mythical bird representing the rebirth of our project. We also decided to use the old English style to emphasis on the classic style.
We were also able to create a big schedule of the week to see when our classes are, when our core hours, and scrum times are that we can all agree upon. Using a massive whiteboard, the schedule sits in our room so everyone can get accustom to the schedule.
After meeting with our advisors and contact, Electronic Arts, we gained a stronger understanding for our project and how massive it is. In 2 weeks we needed to produce a prototype, showing what we can do, on top of that had to come up with 3 pitch ideas that we will be working on.
Roles were assigned and given. Using a production tool RACI, we were able to spread the responsibilities evenly amongst the team.

CHALLENGES:
This week, fortunately, our challenges were very minimal. The only thing that slowed us down was not getting the right equipment that was necessary to start on our prototype. Considering that we only have 2 weeks to create a game, we have no time to waste, but because we needed to wait for the other teams to come up with names was hurtful. Fortunately, we were able to set up a station for our programmers so they can jump on their work.

NEXT WEEK:
We will finish brainstorming, coming up with solid ideas so our artists can start creating concept design, and we will also finish our prototype to show our advisors and client.
