The
Miniature Railroad and Village layout has been a popular Pittsburgh
attraction for decades, and one of the most popular exhibits at the
Carnegie Science Center. Every year at Christmas, the tiny villagers
don decorations to celebrate the holiday season and visiting the
exhibit is a seasonal tradition for hundreds of local families. The
Railroad is an exhibit which spans generations, explores Western
Pennsylvania's rich cultural history, and stimulates storytelling and
oral tradition. The ETC will be working with the Carnegie Science
Center to develop new interactive experiences to augment the railraod
layout and capture the stories of people that lived them.
Additionally,
the Carnegie Science Center is working to acquire a 901,340 lbs.
Bessemer & Lake Erie Texas-type steam locomotive. This locomotive
will be a centerpiece of exhibitry on the riverfront and be a beautiful
juxtaposition to the tiny railroad inside. |
