The Game Innovation Database
Spring 2007
The goal of the Game Innovation Database (GIDb) is to classify and record every innovation throughout the entire history of computer and video games, as well as their relationship to one another. It is our belief that all innovations are directly inspired by the creation of a previous 'parent' innovation, and that these innovations subsequently inspire future 'child' innovations. We plan to show this 'parent/child' relationship by constructing a living network, or 'family tree' of game innovations. Our plan is to build a continually expanding innovation database network by gaining the aid of any academic partners willing to contribute to this project. Most importantly however, we hope that this database benefits everyone who cares about the history, study, and practice of game innovation.
