Project Website

Graphic Tone is a team of ETC students working towards redefining the concert experience. We are working with Dr. Marilyn Taft Thomas, from the CMU School of Music, to add another dimension to a seemingly passive music-listening experience onto the concert stage. We are conducting a series of controlled experiments to determine what effect a visual representation of a piece of avant-garde music has on the first listening experience. We will be using the latest technologies in sound capture, gesture motion capture, and visualization techniques to bring to life a colorful, abstract eco-system, which will be driven by the live performances of the musicians. We are hoping to make this a transformative experience that can later be ported to other musical concert performances for different genres and audiences of different age groups, thus enhancing the concert experience of future concert-goers.
