Inksmith
Fall 2015
Inksmith is working to translate children's storybooks from paper to touch screen. Rather than keeping to fixed format e-books that simply mimic the static, page-flipping ability of paper storybooks, Inksmith will implement seamless transitions over lines of the story, incorporating game elements into various events of the plot, creating sequences of scenes driven entirely by child interaction, and more. The team's efforts will be largely exploratory, rapidly iterating to create multiple storybook prototypes from completely different manuscripts over the semester. Through multiple prototypes, Inksmith hopes to observe recurring interactions that children find engaging and intuitive, documenting such interactions as favorable for future storybook apps.
