Spring 2011

Project Website

The RISE Project is a collaboration between the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago (MSI) and Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center (ETC). A team of six graduate students at the ETC will develop a prototype for the Museum's Fast Forward ... Inventing the Future exhibit, which offers Museum goers a glimpse into the future by featuring ideas and prototypes from innovators whose work has the potential to impact our lives. The ETC team will design and prototype an interactive experience focusing on one of the innovators who will be added to the gallery in October 2011. The team was given a list of seven people from diverse fields such as biochemistry, deep- sea exploration, and surgical robotics to research and brainstorm concepts for development. The goal is to develop a compelling interface that gives guests the opportunity to experience the innovator's work in a fun and unique way. At the end of the spring term, they will have a working prototype for a hands-on experience ready to be handed off to a fabricator for the final installation at MSI.
