Playing outside is, lets face it, no longer the most popular pastime. But maybe it should be: running around outdoors is great exercise, a good opportunity for teens to be social, and a heck of a lot of fun. Could a game on mobile phones pair physical interaction with real world location and convince teenagers to take their love of all things digital into the outdoors? We think so. Our team, The Runaround, is building a mobile game centered around big outdoor play. Remember tag, capture the flag, or cops and robbers? Teens still play bigger versions of these games. Our game will be easier to start, safer to play, and more fun than existing big games such as Fugitive (a multi-mile game of tag with cars). We want teens’ phones to reintroduce them to the pastime of play and give them a workout while they’re at it.
